Product information "Walimex pro Circular Polarising Filter Slim 52 mm with Protective Cover, CPL Filter with Metal Mount for Camera Lens for Professional Photography"
Use:
The polarising filter is still one of the most frequently used filters in photography. Polarising filters only allow light from a certain vibrational level to pass through. All other light rays are filtered out. This filtering results in a reduction of reflections on glass and water surfaces or paints. At the same time, the polarising filters increase colour saturation and contrast. Objects behind glass (shop windows, car windows) become visible again. When taking landscape photos, the polarising filter is most effective at an angle of 90 degrees to the sun. To achieve an even effect in the image, you should not go below a focal length of 35 or 28 mm in 35mm format due to the uneven polarisation of skylight.
How they work
Circular and linear polarising filters work according to the same principle. Optical gratings on the filter film ensure that only linear light waves whose orientation matches that of the grating reach the lens. In contrast to a linear polarising filter, the circular polarising filter has an additional lambda/4 plate. This plate is responsible for the fact that the linear light rays previously created in the polarising filter are again separated into all components and are at an angle of 90 degrees to each other. At the same time, one component is delayed by a quarter wavelength. Thus, all polarisation directions are present again behind the filter. As a result, the autofocus problems often caused by polarising filters do not occur with circular polarising filters.
Excellent workmanship
The circular polarising filter has excellent optical properties. The multi-coated, high-quality glass lens is embedded in a precisely manufactured metal frame. The rotatable filter runs precisely and stays in the desired setting. It is transported in a protective cover that protects the filter from harmful UV radiation, thus significantly increasing its lifespan.
