Professional Polarising Filter for Landscape and Architectural Photography
How It Works
Polarising filters remain among the most commonly used filters in photography and are ideal for landscape photography. A polarising filter, also known as a CPL filter, allows only light of a specific plane of polarisation to pass through. All other light rays are filtered out. This filtering reduces reflections on glass and water surfaces or painted surfaces.
At the same time, polarising filters increase colour saturation and enhance contrast, even when taking photos outside and it is overcast. Objects behind glass (shop windows, car windows) become visible again. When photographing landscapes, the polarising filter is most effective at a shooting angle of 90° to the sun. To ensure a uniform effect across the image, the focal length should not be less than 35 or 28 mm in 35 mm format, due to the uneven polarisation of the sky’s light.
Features an Additional λ/4 Plate
Circular and linear polarising filters operate on the same principle: optical gratings on the filter film ensure that only linear light waves whose orientation matches that of the grating reach the camera lens. Unlike a linear polarising filter, the circular polarising filter has an additional λ/4 plate. This plate ensures that the linear light rays previously formed in the polarising filter are broken down again into their constituent parts and are at an angle of 90° to one another. At the same time, one component is delayed by a quarter wavelength. As a result, all polarisation directions are present again behind the filter. Consequently, the autofocus problems often caused by polarising filters do not occur with circular polarising filters. This makes a polarising filter particularly well-suited for use in combination with other camera accessories.Fantastic Results
The Walimex pro Circular Polarising Filter boasts outstanding optical properties. The high-quality, multi-coated glass lenses are set in a precision-machined metal frame. The rotatable filter turns smoothly and locks into the desired position. This CPL filter is supplied in a protective case that shields it from harmful UV radiation, thereby significantly extending its lifespan. As such, the polarising filter is a reliable addition to any photographer’s kit, offering a durable, high-quality solution for creative image composition.
