Product information "Walimex pro 500/6.3 DSLR Mirror Nikon F"

Normally, a long focal length of 500mm can also be accommodated in a length of 500mm (see our 500mm lens objectives).

To achieve a compact solution that is both universally applicable and compact, a trick was used for this objective. The beam path is simply ‘folded’ using two high-precision polished ring mirrors.

This results in a very compact design and an aperture that is over 50% larger than a lens objective with the same focal length, as well as a very short closest focusing distance of just 2 metres. The lens is focused manually. It can be used with either aperture priority or shutter priority (depending on the camera). It is not technically possible to insert an iris diaphragm into the folded beam path. If light reduction is necessary, this is easily achieved by using neutral density filters (not included), which are screwed in front of the rear lens. For this purpose, there is an M34x0.5 thread.

Practical: the lens has no fixed infinity stop. Focusing is carried out in a ‘pendulum’ fashion, whereby the point of focus is reliably found from out of focus to in focus to out of focus.

T2 connection, user tip: The T2 adapter is screwed onto the optics, then the lens is locked. After loosening the small screws on the side of the T2 adapter, the lens can be ‘raised’ – the index can be aligned upwards. Retightening the screws reliably secures the lens and adapter.

Advantages of a full-frame lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor

Save time in post-processing. A number of lens defects such as distortion, edge blurring or vignetting occur at the outer edges of the image.
If you use a lens designed for a full-frame format on a camera with an APS-C sensor, these areas are not used. This gives you maximum quality.
Additional post-processing time to correct lens defects is no longer necessary.
